Union Civil War veteran and member of Eugene GAR Post 7. He served in Company F, 36th Iowa Volunteer Infantry. The 36th Iowa fought in the Western theater under Gen. Grant. Major engagements included the battles of Helena, Bayou Forche, Mark's Mills, and Jenkins Ferry.
Henry was married to Melissa Bartlett and together they had eight children. He is buried next to his brother, fellow Iowa veteran John A. Dykes.
This grave was unmarked for 108 years until a military headstone was obtained and placed by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in 2007.
