Frankie Mae Welborn Lindsey was born June 14, 1913 in Houston, Texas to Jeff D. and Elsie Peverly Welborn. She died July 22, 2006.
Her family moved to Austin February 1, 1920 and Frankie attended Pease School, Allen Junior High and Stephen F. Austin High School, graduating in June 1931. She received a Bachelor of Journalism degree in 1935 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1936 from the University of Texas.
At UT, Frankie was a member of Theta Sigma Phi professional journalism sorority, the Daily Texan and the Cactus staffs. Upon graduation in 1936, Frankie was employed by Texas Student Publications as acting Night Supervisor of the Daily Texan. The following year she became production manager of the Cactus and later served as business manager of the Student Publications.
She received her private pilot's license in March 1943 and was a member of the Civil Air Patrol, the Ninety Nines (women's private pilots association), and the Texas Flyers Association. She was active in the Girl Scouts during school years 1925 through 1936.
Frankie married Robert Earl Lindsey in 1953 and they made their home in Austin. She and Earl were charter members of St. Luke's on the Lake Episcopal Church. In 1961, Frankie and Earl bought a lot on Lake Travis on which they built a vacation home. After Frankie retired in the fall of 1963, they moved to their place in Siesta Shores on Lake Travis. Earl retired in 1981 and they spent much of their time traveling in their conversion van and taking a number of cruises. After more than 30 wonderful years at Lake Travis, Frankie and Earl moved back to town in 1997.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl Lindsey in January 2002; sister, Elsie Louise Ryland; niece, Mary Elsie Ryland; nephew, John D. Ryland; and closest friend, Mavournee Fitzgerald Rushing.
Survivors include her brother, Clarence Welborn and his wife, Dixie; nieces and nephews and their families.
