Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Patterson Baptist Church with interment in a cemetery there.
The deceased, a native of Patterson, came to Florida as a young man, and served as telegraph operator at Bostwick. There he married Miss Maude Hancock of the pioneer Hancock family.
The couple later returned to Patterson where for many years he engaged in farming on an extensive scale and in banking. He was also active in political, church and fraternal circles.
His widow, Mrs. Maude Thomas, and her sister, Mrs. L. C. Williams of Palatka, are the sole survivors of the once large family of the late John and Jane Hancock, original settlers of Bostwick, making their home there soon after the Civil War.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas always attended the Hancock family reunions held every July at Camp Ross, near Bostwick. (Palatka Daily News Obituary dtd Thursday, 27 Mar 1958.)
