William Nichols Thomas was born on 10 Dec 1874 in Pierce County, Georgia to James Strickland Thomas and Nancy R. (Baxter) Thomas. He died on 20 Jan 1953 in Pierce County, Georgia at the age of 78. He married Mollie Griner on 14 Feb 1905 in Pierce County, Georgia.

At the time of his death, in addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Oliver Jack Thomas; sisters, Rachel (Thomas) Darling, Mary (Thomas) Walker, Annie Thomas, Pendorah "Dora" Thomas, and Minnie Martha (Thomas) Bennett; and brothers, James R. Thomas, John Jackson Thomas, Henry H. Thomas, and Silas Wyly Thomas. He was survived by sons, Nesbert Thomas, Nick Thomas, Fred Thomas, Rouse Thomas, Pastor Clyde Thomas, Claude A. Thomas, and Arthur Jay Thomas; daughters, Willie (Thomas) Herrin, Ruby (Thomas) Morgan, and Mollie (Thomas) Williamson; and a sister, Fannie Thomas.
