PERKINS, Joe B. Born July 3rd, of 1935 in Sulphur Springs, TX, the third child of Ollie Bradford and John D. Perkins, a pioneer family of Hopkins County. He was a fourth generation Texan. He attended Sulphur Springs High School and East Texas State University. Following college he served two years in the US Army stationed in Germany. Following his return he was married to his childhood sweetheart Rose Catherine Tramel on November 26, 1960 at the First Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs. He worked as an accountant in the Treasury Department for the Dallas Independent School District for over 35 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, sister Fern Perkins-Jeffress and brother John C. Perkins. He is survived by niece Peggy Fletcher and her husband Curt of Houston, nephew Tommy Jeffress and his wife Annette of Dallas, and nephew Mike Perkins of Houston. He was also preceded in death by H. Joe Selby, H. A. (Pat) Baker, Jr., and Fred D. Ward, friends for over 50 years. Also survived are close friends Charles Fowler, Bill Greene, Sherri and Mike Landerman, Judy and David Owens, Mary and Riley Fitzhue. He was an active member in the Highland Park United Methodist Church where he attended AYA Sunday School Class and was a church greeter for many years. He was a member of the Retired Dallas Teachers Association, Las Colinas Country Club, La Cima Club, DMA, Dallas Symphony, and attended the Dallas Summer Musicals for over 50 years. Visitation will be at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home on Friday, August 7, from 6-8 p.m. A memorial service will be held in the main sanctuary at Highland Park United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 8, at 10:30 a.m. followed by a reception in the Fellowship Gathering Room. Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 10 at 10:00 a.m. in the family plot in Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur Springs, TX. Memorials may be made to The Diabetes Association or the First Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs, TX.
