During the Civil War, Robert enlisted on 14 Aug 1862 as a private in the 7th Missouri Cavalry, Company K, of the Union Army. Later he joined the 8th Missouri Cavalry, Company F. While on field maneuvers near De Valls Bluff, Arkansas, Robert died from disease and fever on 23 August 1863.

Gravesite Details
Robert he may have been buried in the clay above the White River near De Valls Bluff as were many of the Union soldiers were who died on the nearby hospital rafts from disease and wounds.
