Hawarden, Iowa~ Violet Yvonne Wegner, 84, of Hawarden, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2015 at her residence in Hawarden.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Hawarden with Rev. Barb Joy officiating. Burial will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church. Violet Yvonne Wegner was born on May 8th, 1931 to William and Harriet (Collins) Emmers in Alcester, SD. She lived in Alcester until the 3rd grade when they moved to Hawarden. She graduated from the Hawarden High School in 1949 and was proud to be a member of the “49er’s”.

Vi married Creighton Wegner on Sept. 9th, 1951 in Hawarden. They were blessed with four children.

During her years with the United Methodist Church, she taught the Sunday school, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Twig Benders / Circle of Joy women’s group.

Vi enjoyed all kinds of music from big band to country. She played the clarinet in the community band. She also enjoyed putting puzzles together and watching sports- especially football. She also enjoyed family vacations in Minnesota and wintering with her friends in Texas.

Working at Unique was a great joy of hers for several years. She always had a smile and was loved by all who knew her.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Creighton; and their children Craig (Julie) Wegner of Hawarden, IA, Brad (Teri) Wegner of Crooks SD, Beth (Mark) VanderHelm of Hawarden, IA, and Renee (Roger) Nelson of Sahuarita, AZ.; 8 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 2 on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 brother; and 2 half brothers.
