Samuel Edward Houston, 81, 2605 Andrews street, died Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at his home. He was born January 26, 1847, in North Middletown, Bourbon county, Ky., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Houston, and was married to Miss Ann Decker, at Cornell, November 9, 1870.

Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home, the Rev. James Austin, pastor of the Church of God officiating. The body then will be taken to Rochelle where services will be held at 3 o'clock at the Baptist church. Burial will be in Lawn Ridge cemetery.

Mr. Houston was a Civil war veteran and a member of Rochelle post No. 546, G.A.R. He served in Company K, 138th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He had resided in Rockford since 1920.

Mrs. Houston is survived by the following children: Benjamin A. Houstin, Mrs. Edith Pond, John E. Houston, Mrs. Mary Babb, all of Rockford; Mrs. Margaret Stonesifer, Carlisle, Pa.; Mrs. Bertha Murphy, Mrs. Milda Esposito and B. Eugene Houston, all of Rochelle. He also leaves 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
