Born on 13 Nov 1821 to Reuben Hood Ford and Alibeth Elizabeth Corlett. Ellender married her brother-in-law, Joseph Bertrand Falwell, after his wife died. His 1st wife was Catherine (Ford) Fallwell who died in 1845. Catherine and Ellender were sisters.

The story of Ellender (Ford) Falwell and family as told by Jamima Peniza Falwell to her granddaughter, Betty (Voight) Lane. Jamima is the 7th child born to Ellender & Joseph Falwell:

Catherine and Joseph were married on December 31, 1833, and had 6 children. Catherine became ill after the birth of her sixth child. Knowing death was upon her, Catherine begged her sister, Ellender, to marry Joseph and care for her children. Ellender did marry Joseph on November 27, 1845, according to her sister's wishes. Even though it was a marriage of convenience, Ellender bore Joseph 12 more children and raised the children he had by her sister, Catherine. The youngest child of Joseph and Catherine's children was raised by Ellender's parents, Reuben and Elizabeth Ford as she is found living with them in 1850 when she was five years old. The baby, Catherine, was born on January 18, 1845, so she was just a tiny baby when her mother died.

Joseph and Ellen bought property on Aenon Creek (Maury County, Tennessee). He was listed as a plasterer on one of the census, but he farmed the rest of his life. He lost the land, and in 1860 he is listed as living in Marshall County, Tennessee (about 25 miles away), where Moses Falwell lived. (Moses was most likely a cousin. Moses was born in Virginia, as was his parents, Elisha & Elizabeth Falwell). Also, in 1860, Ellender's mother, Elizabeth Ford (age 68) is living with the family.

Joseph and Ellender then moved to a town called Newburgh, Kentucky. This town is now under water because of the dam and widening of the river. After they moved there, the last child, Marjorie or Marjaner, was born. Joseph farmed and they started life all over again. Ellender's mother, Elizabeth, died before Joseph and Ellender left with their family to move to the Jackson Purchase area of Kentucky.

Here the children grew up and worked. Life was harsh and only through living with my grandmother (Jamima Perninza Falwell) when I was in high school did I find out how rough life was during those frontier times.

After the children were almost grown, Joseph left Ellender and she lived the rest of her days with her children. She died in 1897 and is buried near Almo, Kentucky in a cemetery called Temple Hill. She has a large stone and is buried by two of her sons who died while still young men. Ferdinand Falwell died September 9, 1873. Hardiman James Madison Falwell died April 4, 1888. It was thought that Joseph was brought up from the town of Newburgh when the graves were moved by the T.V.A., but I sent for records and they have no record of him so we don't know where he is buried.

All of the children married and stayed around Murray, Kentucky. All that is except for my grandmother, Jamima Peniza Falwell and her brother, Thomas Jefferson Falwell.

Thomas Jefferson Falwell married either in Kentucky or Texas. He was first in the Clarksville, Texas, area for awhile. He had a picture taken of he and his wife and their two boys about 8 and 10. A small dog was in the picture. Shortly after this, the dog got rabied and bit one of the boys and the mother. They both died.
