Dalton E. Slater, 73 died from complications associated with leukemia Oct. 3, 2000, at Integrated Health Services in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 6, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery with military rites performed by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset.

Dalton Slater was born July 20, 1927, in Hamlin to LeRoy and Iola (Stetzel) Slater. His marriage to Mina Jean DeVault took place June 16, 1950, in Earlham. He was employed with Houck Construction of Des Moines for many years as a machine operator. Following retirement, he worked for Vance and Hochstetler as an inspector. Dalton served in the United States Navy and was a member of Kiwanis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

He is survived by his wife of Winterset; two sons, Steven Slater (wife JoAnn) of Winterset and Robert Slater of Des Moines; three sisters, Darlene Webb (husband Byron), Diane Wright (husband Robert) and Dorothy Rae Irving (husband Mike), all of Adel; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
