Published in The Cairo Evening Citizen and Bulletin, Weds, 3 Apr 1940; Charles P. Powers, age 71, passed away at his home, 208 Twelfth street, this morning at 2:30 o'clock following a year's illness.

Mr. Powers was well known in this city, having been born and raised here. For many years he conducted a livery stable on Commercial avenue, near Fourteenth street.

He is survived by one brother, Lon J. Powers of South Bend, Ind., a half sister, Mrs. J.W. Watson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and other relatives.

The body will remain at Karcher's Funeral Home, where friends may call after 10 o'clock Thursday morning.

Funeral arrangements have not been completed pending word from relatives. Karcher Brothers will be in charge of arrangements.

Powers, who passed away at his home, 208 Twelfth street, Wednesday morning, were held at Karcher's Funeral Home this afternoon at 1 o'clock with Rev. C.A. Jacobi, pastor of the Lutheran church, officiating.

Burial as made in Villa Ridge cemetery. Casket bearers were William Shouter, J.D. Frazzielle, Ross Thomas, Ernest Peck and Kelley Jeffries. Karcher Brothers were in charge of arrangements.
