Myra Jo Graves, 78, of Arkansas City died Wednesday (August 5, 2015) at Medicalodge of Arkansas City. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday (August 8, 2015) at the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Parker Cemetery.
The family will greet friends 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.
Myra was a wife, loving mother, grandmother, cook, shopper, scrap booker, seamstress, traveler, kid wrangler, game show watcher, innovator, educator, friend, giver, and lover of life.
Myra was born to Roy Orville Morrow and Lois Faye (Branick) Morrow on August 16, 1936 in Fredonia, KS. Myra, along with her sister Cheryl, grew up in a loving home that instilled lifelong Christian values. Myra graduated from Severy High School in 1954 and graduated Cowley County Community College in 1955, later graduating from Southwestern College in 1973 with a degree in Elementary Education. She was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the ESA Sorority.
Myra married Life Magazine’s high school track star Richard L. Graves on September 1, 1955. Life with Richard was a joy for just short of 60 years, rearing three children, Christi, Tammi and Devin. She doted on grandchildren Andrew, Hannah, Aaron, Abby, and Levi.
From the very beginning she took on life with every fiber of her being. Her 78 years of life centered on others, be it family, friends, or students. Teaching became the center point of her life for twenty-two years. Discovery and learning were her mantra, finding joy in sharing that passion with others.
A memorial has been established with Jefferson Elementary School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Arrangements are being made through the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Online condolences may be made at www.rindt-erdman.com.
