Wayne Garrett Ava, MO

Earl Wayne Garrett, 81 years, 7 months, and 24 days old, passed to Heaven on August 4, 2015 at the Hospice House in Harrison, AR with his children by his side.

Wayne was born December 11, 1933 in Franklin, Kentucky to Talton Smith and Ruth (Dunn) Garrett.

Wayne was a retired U.S. Air Force Technical Sergeant and veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. Wayne learned to work at a young age raising tobacco at the age of 12. Soon after at age of 17 he enlisted with the U.S. Air Force and retired after 22 years of service. He then spent 17 years working for the state of Missouri Corrections Dept. Wayne continued working at the Ava and Highland Springs Golf Courses until age 75 when he retired for good.

On October 3, 1952 Wayne and Dixie Nell Sellers were united in marriage in Mtn. Home, AR and to this union three children were born.

Wayne was a Christian and attended with Dixie, The New Life Temple Church in Hollister.

Wayne and Dixie loved to travel and dance. He also enjoyed golf, where he was most proud of his hole in one! He also loved tinkering on his grandchildren’s cars and most of all he loved being with his family and especially the grandchildren!

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dixie, his brother’s-in-law, George Allen and Dean Wilks and nephew Larry Wilks.

Wayne is survived by three children, Mike and Cindy Garrett, Terri and Sam Fossett and Bob Garrett all of Ava, MO, 11 grandchildren; Paul & Roxanne Bocchi, Chris & Amy Kirkland, Heather & Jason Snelson, Cami & Lee Bohnenkamp, Sammye & Delbert Helton, Kirby & Tara Fossett, Courtney & Jeff Davault, Shelly & Gabe Beason, Lindsay Belknap, Jorie Garrett and Judd Tyson, 22 great grandchildren; Brittany, Amber, Tyler, David, Tanner, Logan, Sydney, Brandt, Maci, Myley, Rhett, Allison, Ciara, Claire, Celia, Garrett, Gentry, Gracie, Brooklynn, Addilynn, Jaxon, and Bayler, 2 great great grandchildren; Fisher and Hadleigh, two sisters, Helen Allen, Franklin, KY and Jean Wilks, Portland, TN, and other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Wayne will be Sat., Aug.8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO with burial in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors by Troy Herd American Legion Post 112 and U.S. Air Force. Visitation will be Sat. from 1:00 p.m. to service time in the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Oren Alcorn. Memorials may be made to Norwood Children’s Home, 528 W.
