James Milliken was the son of James, Sr., founder of Milliken's Dept. Store in Traverse City, which stayed in the family until 1983. James T. served as the first president of Traverse City Rotary Club from 1920 to 1922, mayor of Traverse City from 1923 through 1929, president of the Traverse City Chamber of Commerce in 1931, and was state senator for Michigan's 27th District from 1941 through 1950.
