Frankie Coldren Martin Givens, 91, died peacefully in Memphis on Thursday, August 6, 2015, after a short illness.
She was born on September 20, 1923, in Memphis, and grew up in Parkin, Arkansas.

In pursuit of her lifelong love of dance, she attended Gulf Park College for Women in Mississippi on a dance scholarship. Then she met the love of her life, Charles Wallace Martin, Jr., who was born in the same hour on the same day in the same year as she, who persuaded her to follow him to the University of Arkansas, where he played football. Frankie joined Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and became a Razorback cheerleader to cheer Wallace on the football field before saying "yes" to cheering him on for life in a marriage which lasted 41 years until his death, and produced their two children.

Frankie was an avid lifelong golfer, who won championships at many golf clubs: Crowley’s Ridge Country Club and Meadowbrook Country Club in Arkansas, and Chickasaw Country Club in Memphis. She was awarded the Senior Trophy at the Memphis Area Women's Golf Association Tournament while in her 70's, and shot her age at 78. She continued to play golf well into her 80's.

Throughout her life, Frankie continued to pursue her love of dance, especially as a member of the Steppin’ Out Dancers, who performed frequently at various clubs and venues. As recently as two weeks before her passing, Crossroads Hospice fulfilled her love of live dance by presenting a tap-dancing show to her at Memphis Jewish Home. Frankie tapped-danced her way into the hearts of all her grandchildren, who honored her with the name of “Honey”.

Honey excelled in all of her endeavors: she entertained at home beautifully with the best home-cooked food to be tasted; she loved gorgeous clothes and dressed to the nines; she loved friends and made certain she attended all of their events, regardless of whether they were in Memphis or anywhere across the State of Arkansas; and she was the first one to arrive at church every Sunday to make coffee for her Chapel Class friends. She volunteered regularly at the Woman's Exchange, and was a faithful member of the Chapel Class at Second Presbyterian Church for twenty-five years.

When Frankie lost her husband, Wallace Martin, she married her high school sweetheart, James Paul Givens. Frankie Coldren Martin Givens is predeceased by husbands, Charles Wallace Martin and James Paul Givens, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Leroy Coldren, brother, Henry Leroy Coldren, Jr., sisters, Baer Dickey Wood and Betty Hix Grafton.

She is survived by her children, Pamela Coldren Martin (Mark Rosenberg) and Charles Wallace Martin III (Ellen), and grandchildren, Marti McFarland Mashburn (Tim), Margaret McFarland Polancich (Craig), Terry Lynn McFarland, Jr.(Devon), Charles Wallace Martin IV (Tammy), and Chad Clarke Martin.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to First Tee, an organization to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character and values through the game of golf, or to the Chapel Class of Second Presbyterian Church.

Visitation will be at 3 pm on Monday, August 10, at Second Presbyterian Church, with memorial service following immediately at 4 pm in the Chapel.
