Lewis Theurer Grant, 88, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014.

He was born to David Grant and Pearl Emma Theurer Grant on October 8, 1925 in Ogden. He spent his early youth in Honeyville and on a ranch in Blue Creek. Lew moved with his family to Ogden on his 8th birthday.

He graduated from Ogden High school in 1943 and joined the Merchant Marines in December of 1943. He served mostly in the South Pacific until 1945 and then made two trips to Europe and one to the Mediterranean in 1946. Those trips were immensely enjoyed.

In 1945, Lew married Ruth Hendricks. The union was blessed with three children, Nancy, Ty, and Patty. They later divorced.

In 1949, Lewis started into the cattle business with his father Dave and his brother Calvin. They founded Dave Grant & Sons Bull Co., and did business throughout the Western States as Grants Range Bulls. Lew worked closely with his nephews, Rich, Jeff, and Dave Grant. He retired in 2005. He took first place in the National Go-Kart race in Missoula, MT in 1962 and was inducted into the Utah Cowboy Hall of Fame in 2013.

His greatest joy in life was his family, kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He took great pleasure in the trips with them to the West Coast.

Lew is survived by his children, Nancy (Ray) McDonough, Lewis Ty (Tracy) Grant, and Patricia (Spence) Phillips; 13 grandchildren, Natalie, Debbie, Jason, Lew, Shay, Jeff, Joe, Steve, Ron, Russ, Brian, Amy, and Brenda; 13 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
