Meredith Walter Harris

June 23, 1930 - April 21, 2012

Meredith was born June 23, 1930, in Myrtle Point to Charley and Rachel Harris. He passed peacefully from this life April 21, 2012. He graduated from Myrtle Point High School in 1948.

Meredith married Patricia Burr in August 1957 and they had five children, William, Caroline, Patricia Ann, Theresa and Charley. The family moved from their home on Dement Creek in 1962 to Brookings, where Meredith worked in road construction. On weekends and vacations the family would travel to the family ranch on Dement Creek to help work on the ranch until 1976 when Meredith moved his family back to the ranch to live and where he ranched full time until he retired. After retirement, he still worked around the ranch and on various projects with his friend, Roland Leep. Meredith loved ranching and teaching his children and grandchildren about the history of the surrounding area and the ranch and about raising cattle.

Meredith is survived by his children and their spouses, William and Virginia Harris, Caroline and Joseph Sullivan and Theresa and Duane De Long; his sisters, Mildred Norhtrup and Ella Jean Edwards; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; and children, Patricia Ann and Charley.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 West Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.
