MRS. MARTHA McSWEYN
Mrs. Martha Hatch McSweyn, 89, widow of Donald McSweyn, died Sunday evening in a Des Moines hospital, after a long period of failing health, and a critical illness of two days.
Mr. and Mrs. McSweyn were residents of Ottumwa and the community for a long time, moving in 1917 to Des Moines where he died in March, 1937.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David Pearsall of Avon, Conn., and Miss Leora McSweyn of Des Moines and four grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Jennie Chilton of Ottumwa.
Mrs. McSweyn was preceded in death by her twin sister, Mrs. Mary Clifford, January 17 of this year, one month before their 89th birthday; and by a brother, Charles Hatch, February 17 this year. She was also preceded in death by several other brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at a Des Moines mortuary and graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Shaul cemetery here.
The cemetery services will be conducted by the Rev. M.E. Hayes of the Willard Street Methodist church of which Mrs. McSweyn had been a charter member for 70 years.
