Joe Escobar died peacefully in his home with loved ones by his side. Born in Oakland, California he was raised in the Bay Area by his beloved mother, Mary. Upon graduating from San Leandro High School, he served in the United States Marine Corps. He then joined the San Jose Police Department and concurrently studied at San Jose State, receiving his BA. Joe was a part time instructor in the Law Enforcement Program at San Jose State in the 1960's, teaching firearms & investigation. Also during the '60s, Joe was San Jose Police Department's best pistol marksman and toured statewide in competition. Joe retired from the police department after 22 years, during which he made many life long friends. Joe's real love and hobby was gemstones & jewelry. On retiring from San Jose Police Department in 1977, he purchased State Jewelers & Brokers in downtown San Jose. Through the years his sons, Mark & Joseph David & daughter, Stacey, joined him. In 1986, they expanded into Campbell. Incorporating as Joe Escobar Diamonds, eventually building their own building at 450 E. Hamilton Avenue in Campbell. Joe loved his employees and customers and treated them like family. Joe loved what he did and was very proud of the reputation he built over 30 years as a jeweler. Joe is survived by his 4 children, Stacey, Joseph David, Mark & Stephanie, daughter-in-law Mary Ann and his grandchildren, Britten, Michael, Matthew & Natalie. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Joe's life on Monday, October 16 at 11 a.m. at the Villa Ragusa, 35 S. Second Street, Campbell.
