Adam graduated from University of Heidelberg in 1842 as a doctor of medicine, practiced in Germany for six years, then, together with his wife Helena, he immigrated to America on Nov 12 1848 aboard the ship "Wellington." He was a renowned physician in St. Louis, Missouri for nearly thirty years and founded the Humboldt Medical College there in 1859. He left St. Louis on 4-20-1877 and returned to Germany, where he died the following year.
