Michael F. Dougovito, 66, of 631 Oak St., Manistique, Mi. died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 19 at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique, MI. He was born April 11, 1942 in Menominee, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carl (Mary Scaritski) Dougovito and graduated from Stephenson High School in 1960.

He continued his education at the Alexian Brothers Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, where he received a nursing degree. He furthered his education at Memorial Mission Hospital School of Anesthesia in Asheville, N.C., receiving a C.R.N.A. degree.

He served in the United States Navy from April 1971 to March 1974, with duty at the United States Naval Hospital in Taipei from June 1972 until his discharge in 1974.

Following the military he accepted the position of nurse anesthetist at Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique, working in the Anesthesia department and the respiratory therapy department until his retirement in 1998.

On Sept. 16, 2000 he married the former Deborah A. Hughson on the Lake Michigan boardwalk in Manistique.

He served five consecutive terms as a City of Manistique councilman from 1982 until 2000. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church in Manistique and a former member of the Manistique Boxing Club. He enjoyed reading and volunteering at St. Francis de Sales School and was active in athletics. He ran several marathons, bicycled through the British Isles and backpacked through New Zealand.

His wife Deborah A. Dougovito survives.
He is further survived by a son Carl (Jodi) Dougovito of Alanson, MI;
a daughter Lori Dougovito of Howel, MI;
stepdaughters: Mrs. Cory (Mandy) Renk of Manistique and Dawn Hansen of San Antonio, Tex.;
eight grandchildren;
five brothers: Gregory Dougovito of Cedar River, MI; James (Linda) Dougovito of L'Anse, MI; Paul (Pamela) Dougovito of Marblehead, Mass.; Mark (Suzette) Dougovito of Lapeer, MI and Earl Dougovito of Menominee, MI;
a sister Mrs. William (Cathy) Aalto of Marquette, MI;
and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Carl Dougovito.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the St. Francis de Sales Education Foundation.
