Born and raised in Newark, he lived in Belleville for the past 49 years.
He attended Upsala College where he received a Bachelor of Science degree, Seton Hall University where he received a master’s degree in education, and Rutgers University where he received a doctorate in education.
In 1982, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Seton Hall University – Graduate School of Education.
Before retiring from a 38-year career in education with the Newark Public School system in 1995, he served as an elementary school teacher, vice-principal, principal and assistant superintendent of Schools.
He also served on the Belleville Board of Education for almost 17 years. He was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and the Belleville Optimist Club.
After retiring from education, he was a real estate agent with DePiro Realtors in Nutley and Weichert Realtors in West Orange.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife Rose Marie (Romano), of 51 years, as well as his beloved parents, Giuseppe and Grazia (nee Colisanti) D’Agostino. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Louise Dick, Rose DonDiego, Madeline Mazza, Mary Castellano and Michael D’Agostino.
He is survived by his children, Joseph V. D’Agostino and his wife Sandra, Anthony T. D’Agostino and his wife Kimberly, Deacon Vincent A. D’Agostino, and Michelle Cook and her husband Joseph. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Olivia, Charlie and Julia Rose, as well as many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. from S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 28 Brookline Avenue, Nutley.
The internment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, 712 Grove St. Montclair, New Jersey.
Visitors will be received on Sunday, July 26, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105."
