Ricky Houston Butler Jr., 37, of Decatur, died due to a tragic accident, on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2015.

He was of the Baptist faith. He served in the U.S. Army and was a construction worker by trade.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, the Rev. Robert H. Butler; and sister, Jennifer Butler Finnell.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Ricky Butler Sr. and Carla Butler, of Decatur; mother, Connie Habel Smith; stepmother, Brenda Howell; sisters, Maria Butler, of Athens, and Amanda Habel; brother, Robert Smith; paternal grandmother, Pauleda and her husband, J.D. Wilson, of McMinn County; girlfriend, Christina Vance and her children, Alexis and Jacob, of Decatur; aunts, Nancy Miller, Ann Buckner and her husband, John, all of Athens, and Kim Hamill and her husband, Donny, of Fort Oglethorpe, Ga; uncle, Charles Butler and his wife, Vivian, of Decatur; daughters, Haley Emerson, of Decatur, Catlyn Godbey, of Inglewood, and Jaylin and Hannah Butler, of Athens; niece, Alexis Butler: nephew, Chaz Davis; great-nephew, Bryler Prueitt; many cousins and friends; and best friend, Benny.

The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, in the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Hogan officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday.

Interment will be in the Clearwater Baptist Church Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.

Pallbearers will be Chris McConky, Ricky McConky, Colby Butler, T.J. Bryan, Trevis Hicks and Cody Prueitt. Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Bowlin.
