Born in Shamokin, June 6, 1928, he was a son of the late Margaret (Lobb) Jones and Clarence Leroy Jones.
He was a graduate of Shamokin High School and was a veteran of U.S. Army. He was stationed at Camp Carson, Colo., during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge, Johnny married Florence Masiak, formerly of Shamokin, and they settled in Royersford, where they were members of Sacred Heart parish. More recently, he was a member of Blessed Teresa of Calcutta parish, Schwenksville.
He worked for Milprint Corp., a preservative food-packaging company, for 30 years as an extruder operator, and later Reynolds Metals and Alcoa after their purchase of Milprint's Downingtown plant.
He enjoyed dining out at the Coventry Cafe, and especially enjoyed a competitive game of billiards, eight ball or nine ball, and was a member of several local pool leagues in the greater Pottstown area. He also was a member of the local American Legion, Moose, VFW Post 780, the Coal Crackers Club, Shamokin, and the West End Fire Company, Shamokin. His hobbies were shooting pool, vacationing with his extended family at Knoebels in Elysburg, and snowbirding in Pinellas Pines, Fla., during the winter months of his retirement years.
Surviving are two children, Richard Michael Jones and his wife, LeeAnn, of Scranton, and Gina (Jones) Custer and her husband, James, of East Coventry Township; six grandchildren, Matthew Curtis Jones, of Frederick, Md., Rebekah Ellen (Jones) Rauch, of Montrose, Ryan Joseph Jones, of Scranton, Sarah Lenore Jones, of Scranton, Kyle Jonathan Custer, of Pittsburgh, and Katie Elizabeth (Custer) Arnold, of Boyertown; three great-grandchildren, Lily Mae Rauch, Zachary Curtis Rauch, and Everett Orville Jones. He is also survived by his only brother, Larry Jones, of Rome, N.Y., as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Jones and Margaret "Peggy" (Jones) Pellish.
Funeral Mass was celebrated at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Roman Catholic Church, 256 Swamp Pike, Schwenksville. Interment was at the convenience of the family.
