Sara Kathleen Wyrick Johnston age 94 of Roanoke, Virginia passed away peacefully at her home on July 30, 2015.
She was born in Wytheville, Virginia and was the daughter of Rhea Maiden Wyrick and Lelia Austin Wyrick.
Sara moved to Roanoke at age three and graduated from Jefferson High School Class of 1939.
In 1942 she married John Wesley Johnston, IV and they made their home in Roanoke.
While the majority of her life was spent raising family, she also enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, bridge, spending time with friends, and traveling.
Sara, along with Earline Porterfield (her dearest life-long friend) and Judy Smith, are the last surviving charter members of Windsor Hills United Methodist Church which was formed in 1954.
Sara is pre-deased by her husband, parents, and son, John Wesley Johnston, V.
She is survived by her daughter and son -in-law, Cheryl (Cherry) Johnston Sprinkle (Dr. G), son and daughter-in-law Joseph Ray Johnston (Joanie), three grandchildren Wesley Anne Sprinkle O’Brien (Dr. Kevin), Clark Austin Sprinkle, and Rachael Wilson Johnston. Her nephew, James Wilson Johnston, niece, Julia Johnston Cowart, and their families of Statesboro, Georgia were also a very integral part of her life.
