Ramona H. Walker, 69, of Flandreau, SD and Winnebago, NE, died on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Old Agency Community Center in Old Agency, SD, with Ascension Church pastors John Cloud and Gerald Heminger, Jr., officiating.
• • Ramona Heminger was born on October 25, 1936 in Sisseton, SD. She attended elementary school at the Big Coulee Day School, and high school at Flandreau Indian School, graduating in 1955. She attended Haskell Vocational School for one year.
She married Vincent Walker on June 1, 1957 at the Reformed Church in Winnebago, NE. She lived in Winnebago while working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She relocated to the Lower Brule BIA for one year, then to the Sisseton BIA for another year. She then went to the Flandreau Indian School until she retired in 1998, after 36 years with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Ramona is survived by her husband, Vincent; four daughters, ; one son, Darren ; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Belle Heminger; her father, LeRoy Heminger; two brothers; one infant son; and one infant granddaughter.
