A native of Raleigh, MS, Mr. Thornton was born March 7, 1942 to Lemmie J. and Lela Curtis Thornton. He was the former owner the Automatic Transmission Service and Jackson Motor Speedway.
He was well known in the racing community having drag raced for 50 years and later operating the dirt track in Byram.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jimmy Dale Thornton and sister Shirley Jackson.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patt; his son, Danny J. Thornton, of Florence; his daughter, Sandy McAlpin(Michael) of Byram; grandchildren, Lakin Thornton, Dylan and Evan McAlpin; his brother, John Thornton; his sisters, Gencie Patton, Doris Marble (Jaco) and Betty Anderson.
