Dr. Markiewitz was born on August 31, 1950 in Mojave, Ca. to Louis and Nauwausau Markiewitz, The youngest of three children. David was an all -star little league and Babe Ruth league baseball player pitching for numerous championship teams. He attended Mojave High School and was a part of the "Class of '68." He was selected as a Tenor Saxophone player to the Kern County Honor Band in his sophomore year, named 'Alternate Delegate' to "Boys State" in his junior year, and became a record-setting pitcher for the Mojave High School Mustangs Varsity Baseball Team, earning the Most Valuable Player award in his senior season. He attended Fresno State University from 1968 to 1972 and instead of pursuing a probably very successful baseball career he instead turned his attention to Zoology with the intent of attending Dental School. It was also during this his freshman year at Fresno State that he met his future wife, Cheryl Long, the daughter of Dr. Albert and Bea Long of Paso Robles. It was a love that was meant to be and his passion for Cheryl fueled his professional goals. During his junior year at Fresno he was interviewed and accepted tot he University of the Pacific school of Dentistry in San Fransisco. Upon graduation from Fresno State in 1972, he married his sweetheart Cheryl and began a partnership that would last for the rest of his life.

While in dental school, Cheryl worked at Hayward State University, earned her Master's degree in Kinesiology, was a part-time instructor, and started the university's synchronized swimming program. Following graduation from UOP in 1975, Dr. Markiewitz opened his private dental practice in Tehachapi where he served the community with compassion and legendary care, treating local residents and numerous Hollywood stars. Among his many successes in his practice, he was very proud of the smile he made for movie star Jack Palance who donned it in national commercials and films for years. He also had the great fortune of working with Cheryl at his dental practice for seven years and was exceedingly proud of her "#1 in the Class" graduation from Taft college's Dental Hygienist program. After 33 years in private practice, Dr. Markiewitz sold the buisiness and began a 5-year stint as a dentist for the California Correction Institution (CCI) at Tehachapi. He served as the Acting Supervising Dentist and made a new batch of friends in the CCI Dental Department. He finally entered into full retirement in 2013.

When not in the dental office, Dr. Markiewitz was and avid amateur geologist, lecturer, and underground lode miner holding and working claims in the Mojave Desert and Kelso Valley for nearly 40 years. He used his mining skills and experience to write the highly successful book, "A Fortune in the Desert" in 1985. For the final two years of his life he had a great deal of fun prospecting, playing with his grandchildren, and spending truly fulfilling time with his wife. He and Cheryl traveled across the country and had planned many more ventures in the years ahead.
