PORT RITCHEY, Fla. — Ross William Anderson, age 78, formerly of Ashtabula, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, at his home.
He was born April 11, 1937, in Ashtabula, Ohio, the son of Fritz and Florence (Davison) Anderson and had lived in New Jersey before moving to Florida several years ago.
A proud military veteran, Mr. Anderson enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1955. He achieved the rank of Hospital Corpsman Second Class and was awarded Good Conduct Medals throughout his enlistment. He was honorably discharged in July of 1963
Prior to his retirement, he worked in the healthcare field as a Histologic Technician. He was an Associate Member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and a member of the National Society for Histotechnology. During his career, Mr. Anderson worked at Rancocas Valley Hospital in Willingboro (bought by Zurbrugg Hospital in 1981), N.J.; St. Francis Medical Center; St. Barnabas Health Care, and the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton.
He loved animals, especially his dogs, "Rocket and Buck" who preceded him. He enjoyed nature and would go camping throughout his life. He also enjoyed music and played the drums. During his lifetime, he performed with various country bands including The Sundance Band and its predecessor Country Sensations.
His survivors include three children, Kathleen (Albert) Vernacchio of Maryland, John Anderson of Indiana, Pa., and Dale Anderson of Philadelphia, Pa.; grandchildren include Vincenzo G. Vernacchio, Jacqueline Anderson, Anna Lucille Vernacchio, Stephanie Anderson, and John Anderson; a nephew and niece, Darl (Nora) Anderson and Deborah Anderson; a grand-niece, Adrianna (Richard) Woodruff and grand-nephew, Richard (Aracelis Rich) Anderson; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert and Richard Anderson; his sister, Katherine; and his parents.
A Calling Hour will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., with a Service at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 22nd, at DUCRO FUNERAL SERVICES AND CREMATORY, 4524 Elm Ave., Ashtabula. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
