Marie Dedie, 82, devoted to home
Marie Dedie, a longtime Rochester resident who was devoted to her home along West High Terrace, died there Thursday of an apparent heart attack, family members said. She was 82 years old.
Mrs. Dedie lived in only two houses in her life.
She was born at 456 Maple St. where her father, George Steger, also ran a butcher shop. The Maple Street shop, which closed 10 years ago, was run by the Steger family for three generations.
Mrs. Dedie lived on Maple Street until 1923, when she married Anthony Dedie, a postal worker.
The newlyweds moved to 262 West High Terrace, where Mrs. Dedie lived the remainder of her life.
She was widowed in 1947 and thereafter shared the home with her daughter, Mary.
Mary Dedie, herself, has lived all her life at the same address.
"She loved home," Miss Dedie said. "She never wanted to travel. She was happy where she was."
Miss Dedie said her mother loved to cook, garden and knit.
"She always hoped she would never have to leave her home," she said.
Mrs. Dedie is survived by her daughter; a son, George; a sister, Marguerite Spahn; a brother, George; and four grandchildren.
