Mass of Christian Burial will beat St. Paul's Catholic Church, St. Cloud for James M. Gammell, 97, of Sauk Rapids, who died Saturday at his residence. Rev. Al Stangl will officiate and burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, St. Cloud.
James was born on April 13, 1918 to Michael and Litha (Meyers) Gammell in Minneapolis. He married Marcella "Marcy" (Zwicky) on May 22, 1943 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in St. Paul and together they moved to St. Cloud. James retired after 25 years as a salesman for AAA of Minnesota. He then went on to start his own business J & M Ushers. He was a Tophatter, Greeter, a member of the Chamber of Commerce and a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #961. He enjoyed time with family, and playing Skat, fishing and cooking. James has volunteered for various organizations in the area for many years.
James is survived by his children, James Jr. of Aiken, SC, John (Ginny) of St. Cloud, Mary Lynne (Paul) Goenner of Clear Lake, Barbara (George) Peyla of St. Paul, Philip (Terese) of St. Michael and David of St. Cloud; 12 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella May 6, 2015; parents; son, Michael; infant daughter, Ann Elizabeth; sisters, Mary Sams and Ellen Lavenhagen.
