Actress. An attractive leading lady, she experienced roles of substance in top-notch feature films, prior to slipping to B-movies and television guest parts. Born Doris Bernice Jensen, the daughter of Danish descent, she excelled at Hamline University, where she studied Dramatic Arts. After graduation, she made her professional debut in small stage productions, before moving to Hollywood during the mid-1940s. She marked her motion picture debut with an uncredited part in "State Fair" (1945) and followed this with a few minor roles before sharing the screen with Victor Mature in "Kiss of Death" (1947). She went on to appear opposite Tyrone Power in "Nightmare Alley" (1947) and was paired again with Mature in "Fury at Furnace Creek" (1948), before reaching the pinnacle of her career in the classic picture "Red River" (1948) with John Wayne and Montgomery Clift. Her only Broadway credit was in the short-lived play "Leaf and Bough" (1949), which was noted for including a young Charlton Heston in the cast. During the 1950s, she settled into second features including "Kansas City Confidential" (1952), "The Vampire" (1957), "The Leech Woman" (1960) and "Phantom Planet" (1961). Among her films of note during that period include "The Vanquished" (1953, which starred John Payne with who she was romantically involved offscreen) and the early Stanley Kubrick effort "The Killing" (1956). In addition, she appeared in a wide range of TV programs including "Perry Mason", "Rawhide" and "McCloud". She died from natural causes at the age of 92.
