Elmer H. Remiker, Jr., 85, formerly of Long Road, Reedsville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Brillion Westhaven. Elmer was born on April 24, 1930, the son of Marie H. (Seidl) and Elmer J. Remiker, Sr. Elmer attended Maple Grove and Reedsville High School. During childhood, he worked on the family farm, then eventually settled on his own 80 acre farm south of Maple Grove after he united in marriage with Virginia Rosemary Oswald on July 7, 1951. The couple enjoyed 62+ years of life, love and hard work together on their dairy farm. In addition to their own farm, he worked as a team with his older brother Marvin and his Uncle Joe planting and harvesting the three farmsteads. Besides farming, Elmer also worked at Edward Reinemann and Son and Bob Behnke Construction intermittently while farming to support his family. Developing the growth of local farm community, Elmer was a Reedsville Co-op Board member for fifteen years, five of which he served as Board President. After selling the milk cows, he worked for many years at Reedsville Equity Livestock Association where his wife Virginia had also worked. He enjoyed the camaraderie of the many friends he worked with that became like family along with staying connected with the farmers who were bringing items in for sale. Through the years, Elmer was a strong supporter of 4-H, as many of his children were 4-H members. His love for basketball initiated the first basketball team for the Maple Grove grade school boys that he and Al Sheehy co-coached. He supported youth sports not only for his own children and eventual grandchildren but of the community that he was an active part of. Elmer was an avid Brewer fan and loved to bet with his kids on the Packer games, always betting against the Packers! Elmer and Virginia were life-long members of St. Patrick's, Maple Grove, continuing membership into Holy Family Catholic Church in Brillion when it was formed.Elmer is survived by his children: Randy (Barb) Remiker of Greenville, Vicki (Bruce) Behnke of Suamico, Julie (Donald "Shep" Sheehy) Glasow of Maple Grove, Colleen (Francis) Lux of Kewaunee, Chrissy (Dave) Volpe of Doylestown, PA and Lisa (Pat) DeWall of Appleton; eleven grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren. His beautiful bride Virginia preceded him in death May 1, 2014. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 W. Ryan St., Brillion. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be Rev. Timothy Brandt, with burial to follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Maple Grove.
