Herbert F. Jansen "was born Dec. 31, 1909, on the family farm, the son of Robert and Clara (Hintz) Jansen. He attended Madison County School District 11 before farming. On Dec. 15, 1931, he married Agnes Bartak at Yankton. The couple farmed in Madison County. She died Oct. 10, 1948. Later, he was employed at Cengas and was a gas distribution fitter. He moved to Norfolk and on July 17, 1968, married Esther (Fuhrman) Janssen. He retired in 1974 and was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church."

He was survived by 2 sons and their spouses, 2 daughters and their spouses, 1 son-in-law, 3 step-children and their spouses, stepson-in-law, 17 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreatgrandchildren, and 1 sister.
