John Wiley Spurlock, 67, of Bellmead, passed away, Friday, July 21, 2006, in Brownwood Texas. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Bellmead First Baptist Church with the Rev. W. Frank Brown officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery located in Corsicana. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Bellmead Funeral Home. John was born March 31, 1939, in Corsicana to John Bird and Alsie (Starnes) Spurlock. He graduated from LaVega High School in 1957. John served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1978. After retiring from the Navy, John worked as an electronics technician. He was self employed for a time and also worked for GTE, Verizon and Cingular. He was a member of the Bellmead First Baptist Church where he served his church lovingly and faithfully as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director, and also was always available to help anyone in need. He aspired for the Bellmead First Baptist Church to be the Lighthouse to lead the lost to Christ. He was preceded in death by his father, John Bird Spurlock and his mother, Alsie Elizabeth (Starnes) Spurlock. Survivors include his sons, Johnny Spurlock, Joey Spurlock and James Spurlock; sisters, Emily Johnson and husband, Laney of Longview, Martha Detterman and husband, Joe of McKinney; granddaughter, Kaleigh;special friend, Pat Jackson; aunt, Mrs. Lenore Jones of The Woodlands; uncle, Willie Starnes of Waco; special nephews;host of relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary Pallbearers will be deacons of Bellmead First Baptist Church March 31, 1939 - July 21, 2006
