Edith C. Beers YORK Edith C. Beers died peacefully at home Monday, March 2, 2009. She was 91. Born February 23, 1918, in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Arthur W. Close and Edith M. (Wert) Close, and the wife of the late Robert O. Beers, with whom she celebrated 64 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by brothers, John and Willis Close, and sister, Elisabeth Close Unley. She is survived by sister, Jane Close Barnes; daughters, Jane Gervais and husband, John of Seven Valleys, Suzanne Feaster and husband, David of Landenberg, and Elizabeth Long and husband, Steven of Davis, Calif.; son, John Beers and wife, Laurie of Nye, Mont.; grandchildren: Paul Gervais and Danielle Gervais Sodani, Alexandra Beers Van Derlyke, Erika and Kristin Beers, David and Matthew Feaster, and Jaimie and Scott Long; and great-grandchildren, Theo and Luke Sodani, Benjamin Van Derlyke, and David and Erin Feaster. She graduated from Dalton High School and Keystone Junior College in LaPlume, Pa. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Niles Bible Class, and the Little Flock Bible Study group. She was a member of Country Club of York where she played golf with the Nine Holers and was a member of the bowling league. She was a member of the Young Women's Club of York, served on the Board of the Mental Health Assoc., and volunteered at York Hospital. Besides bowling and golf, she enjoyed bridge with her friends. She loved to walk with her husband and dogs at the farm. They also enjoyed many trips, in particular windjammer cruises to Greece and Costa Rica. Their favorite winter vacation was in Arizona where they had many friends who gathered at the ranch each year. She was a loyal and much loved friend to many in her church, club, and neighborhood. Her children will miss their loving and patient mother. As grandmother, she was always interested in the grandchildren with special feelings for the youngest. The family is deeply grateful to her dedicated caregivers who have been with her faithfully for the last few years. With their loyal support, Mother was able to stay in her home as she wished. A memorial service is planned on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church, York, with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Alzheimer's Disease Research and the First Presbyterian Church of York. The John W.
