Anthony William Montanaro Sr., 53, Northern Cambria, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed peacefully from this world Sunday surrounded by his family.

He was born in Spangler, son of the late Matthew Francis and Thelma Oleen (Warner) Montanaro.

Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Rita Joy (Prandi); a daughter, Jaclyn Suzanne Mudrey and husband, Gregory, of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Anthony Jr. of San Antonio, Texas; five grandchildren: Alexa Grey, Ian Mudrey, Anthony Montanaro III and Emma and Vinny Montanaro; and siblings: Debra Zedek and husband, Gerald, of Northern Cambria, Matthew Jr. and fiancee, Janet McGarvey, of Coalport, Carmella McClure and husband, Roy, of Travelers Rest, S.C., James and wife, Patti Sowers, of Northern Cambria, Thelma Zaliznock and husband, Thomas, of Watkins and Frederick, Angelo and Vincent.

He also is survived by his mother-in-law, Emma Prandi of Northern Cambria; a sister-in-law, Belinda Mulhollen and husband, Richard, of Elmora; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anthony S. and Carmella Jean (DePetro) Montanaro; his father-in-law, William Francis Prandi; and a brother-in-law, William Prandi Jr.

Anthony was employed as an instructor for FirstEnergy Corp. He was a former coal miner and a member of United Mine Workers of America.

Anthony cherished his family and friends. He loved to cook, enjoyed working with computers and household remodeling and was able to fix just about anything. Those who knew him well will remember him as a practical joker who loved to laugh and make others laugh in turn.

Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., Northern Cambria. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Father Larry Lacovic officiating. Committal will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery.
