Serjeant 22896 Manchester Regiment. Enlisted on 22 May 1915 and served overseas from January 1916 to February 1917. Discharged on 26 February 1917 due to valvular disease of the heart, aggravated by active service. Before enlistment he was a shoemaker, and was the husband of Florence Ethel Royle, of 4 Narbuth Street, Cheetham Hill. Buried on 5 September 1919.

Accepted for commemoration as a casualty of war by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission on 17 December 2022, following research by members of In From the Cold Project and the Manchester Regiment Forum.
