MEBANE - Sara Josephine Nicholson Burgess, 90, of Mebane passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Presbyterian Home of Hawfields. Sara was born in Alamance County. She was retired from Western Electric with 40 years service. She was also a lifetime member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Mary L. Burgess of Mebane; grandchildren, Nikki and Paul Crews, Bennie and Hannah Felts; great-grandchildren, Preston Lashley, Sarah Shell, Jacob Lashley, Thomas Crews; special nieces and nephews, Nancy (Joe) Fennel, Greig Nicholson (Linda), Tim Nicholson (Pam).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jamie Gordon Burgess; son, Bruce Burgess; parents, Albert and Cora Jobe Nicholson; sisters, Evelyn Atkins, Rozelle Martin. Brothers; James Nicholson, Arnold Nicholson, Thomas Nicholson, and Ervin Nicholson.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Hebron United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Bryan Sexton. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45 until 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
