1857: A. Lucas & Sons is founded in Peoria by German immigrant Adam Lucas.
1897: A. Lucas & Sons is incorporated and the factory is moved from 211 Fulton St. to its current location at 1328 SW Washington St. (Then 1318 S. Washington St.) Adam Lucas' son, Hugo Lucas, takes over as president.
1910: Members of the International Workers of the World attempt to put the company out of business by placing dynamite inside the factory on Labor Day after attempts to unionize workers failed. The roof of the building was blown off and some equipment was damaged, but the factory remained intact.
1936: A. Lucas & Sons becomes a union shop.
1940: Stearn Lohnes, Hugo Lucas' son-in-law becomes the steel fabricator's third president.
1978: John Hanley, a longtime employee of A. Lucas & Sons, purchases the factory when Lohnes passes with no heirs, becoming the fourth president in company history and the first with no Lucas family ties.
2005: Hanley's daughter Margaret takes over as the company's first female president.
2010: The steel company receives a $350,000 match grant as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act which created several jobs for A. Lucas & Sons.
