His parents were the late Everett and Frances Cowdin, also of Council Grove.
Brandt graduated from Emporia State University and worked as an engineer in Kansas City making laboratory equipment.
He was a Vietnam War veteran involved in two secret operations there. He was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Megan Brandt, England.
Graveside services will be in Clinton, MO, with full military honors.
