Deborah A. “Deb” Withrow, 59, of Sandusky, died early Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 10, 2011, in her home surrounded by her family and loyal companions, Millie and Ben, following a courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

She was born June 6, 1952, in Sandusky and was a 1970 graduate of Sandusky High School. She was a member of the marching band and was the first female band president in Sandusky High’s history. She was employed by Ohio Veterans Home as a nurse’s aide and prior to that had worked many years at Kiddie Korral, where her love of children helped generations of Sandusky families flourish.

Deb was passionate about the environment and was involved with several different organizations that advocated respect and appreciation for all forms of nature, including wildlife and reusing our resources. Her love for the outdoors was also evident in some of the activities she enjoyed, such as camping, canoeing and gardening. She also appreciated all genres of music, played many instruments herself, and even composed a catchy tune on occasion. Deb was an avid reader and enjoyed a wide spectrum of topics.

Deb is survived by her parents, Thomas and Ruth (Krueger) Sieb of Huron; sisters Cindi Withrow of Norwalk and Jenny (Jeff) Anglin of Sandusky; nieces Shana and Paige Anglin; brothers Mark Withrow of Caldwell, Ohio, and Michael and Steven Withrow of Paris, Ky.; and one uncle, Floyd (Marion) Withrow of Colorado Springs, Colo. She also leaves behind her goddaughter, Laura Bravard Oliver, and her special family that includes Bonnie Bates, Annie (Jon) Green, Nicholas Bates, Maverick and Ayla, as well as Lauren and Devon Woodruff.

Her father, James Edward Withrow; grandparents, Mildred and Foster Krueger and Estella and Albert Sieb; and uncles Sam and Roger Withrow, preceded her in death.

A Celebration of Deb’s Life will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Osborne Park, Shelter Four, 3910 E. Perkins Ave., Huron. In keeping with Deb’s spirit of giving to others, she had decided to donate her body for scientific purposes to Ohio University. Groff Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorial contributions in Deb’s memory may be made to the Erie County Humane Society, Sandusky Library, Cancer Services of Erie County or to Stein Hospice.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to North Coast Cancer Care for the loving treatment and attention to Deb that was provided in the last months.
