Patricia Pat N. (Ott) Irwin, 89, Union Star, went to be with her Lord, Thursday, July 30, 2015, at Mosaic Life Center, St. Joseph.
Born on February 2, 1926, in Union Star, she was the daughter of Ernest and Nancy (Woolery) Ott. Patricia enjoyed her childhood days spent playing at her dads restaurant, reading books in their attic, dancing and attending school. She loved to learn even at a young age, but was happy to get out of attending P.E. class by playing accompaniments for choir during that class period. After graduation from Union Star High School in 1944, she attended Missouri Western Jr. College in St. Joseph until she was needed as a teacher at Flag Springs, Mo. during World War II. She happily recalled VE day and flooding the streets of St. Joseph to celebrate.
Pat married William Irwin on April 6, 1947, and exchanged her city life for one on the farm. There she was a hard worker, a wonderful neighbor and embraced the tall task of raising three ornery boys, Richard Rick, Ernest Beck and Daniel Danny before moving back to town (Union Star) in 1959.
Once in town, Patricia taught piano from her home for many years, and because of her gentle but thorough instruction, the music from countless pianos continue her legacy today. Her pupils remember not only how to make music, but also the cookies and warm conversation she offered.
Patricia was a wonderful conversationalist, great listener and secret-keeper. Hospitable, witty and trustworthy to the core, the things that brought her her greatest joy include her Savior, music and dancing, books, a never-ending pot of coffee and her family especially her many grandchildren.
In her Bible, she had written the quote by Matthew Henry, Those who have welcomed Christ will welcome death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Barbara (Ott) Bennet; and great-granddaughters, Hope Townsend and Faith Stoll.
Survivors include her three sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Marcia, Tomball, Texas, Beck and Joan, Union Star, and Danny and Gwen, St. Joseph; ten grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, August 3, at Roberson Funeral Home, King City, Mo.
Burial will follow in Union Star Cemetery, Union Star.
