Maknus Neimi was killed in the explosion and fire of Winter Quarters #4, a coal mine. Mines were advanced well into the mountain, a distance over a mile. Mine #4 and mine #1 were interconnected deep in the workings. The blast killed men outright in #4. Familys waiting at the portal were unaware of this and in hope their loved ones, working in mine #1 would be all right. The gas (carbon monoxide) spread rapidly through all the interconnected workings. And then the dead from #1 were carried out. The scene defied description! The last bit of hope for surviors vanished and the frontiers women and children were left facing the reality there would no surviors from either mine. Matters would continue to get worse - right up to the torrential freezing downpour during the funeral burial on May 5th. These were black days for sure on the Utah frontier.

It isn't a life but it is a thought. In this thought there is life. Amen
