Mary Jane Atchley
(September 24, 1924 - July 31, 2015)

Mary Jane Atchley, age 90, of Gatesville passed away Friday, July 31, 2015 in Gatesville. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday August 4, 2015 at Scotts Funeral Home Chapel with Edward Schaub officiating. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Hamilton County. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 on Monday August 3, 2015 at Scotts Funeral Home.

Mary Jane was born on September 24, 1924 in Gatesville, to the late Eustace and Annie Ashby Harris. Mary Jane attended school in Purmela, where she had perfect attendance for four straight years. She also rode a horse to school every day while attending school in Purmela. Mary Jane attended high school in Evant, graduating from Evant High School in 1941.

She married J. D. Atchley on October 26, 1941. They spent 73 long years together. Mary Jane was a homemaker for many years. She then became a floral designer and owned her own flower shop, The House of Flowers, in Gatesville. After she retired from floral design Mary Jane moved to the country where she enjoyed cooking, sewing, handcrafts, fossil hunting, and picking up pecans every fall. She was a long time member of the Pearl Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.D. Atchley and her parents.

Mary Jane is survived by her daughters, Mary Ann McGoogan and husband, John and Martha Ray Rommell and husband, Carrol; son, Douglas Eldon Atchley and wife, Linda; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend and member of our family Butch Black.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations may be made to the Pearl Church of Christ.
