Carolina was born in 31 August 1861 in Kryckeltjarn, Degerfors, Västerbotten, the daughter of Erik Eriksson and Brita Andersdotter.

She marries Nils Andersson 2 May 1886 at Bygdeå, Västerbotten, Sweden. The next month they leave for North America. They arrive at McCook County, Dakota Territory (later South Dakota), where their five children are born, including John, who dies in infancy.

They looked around and find all the good farmland is taken, so they move to northwest of Presho, in Lyman County, South Dakota, where they take up a homestead. But disaster strikes after six years and her husband Nils dies of tuberculosis (TB). They return to their former home in McCook County, where Nils dies in 1900. Widow Caroline tries to run the store for a little while (the Center Store later operated by Ben and Mayme Howe, Nil's niece).

In 1904, Carolina takes here children to return to the homestead in Lyman County, S.D. The Bureau of Land Management records show Carolina was granted their homestead she and her late husband farmed: "Anderson, Carolina, T106N, R77W, part of Sec. 18, 159.14 Acres, patent #3743 granted 9 Nov 1907." But more sorrow strikes--the oldest son, Arthur, also becomes ill with tuberculosis.

Carolina, having heard Colorado climate was good for T.B. patients, takes her children in the summer of 1907 in a covered wagon with their belongings for a grueling six-week trip, fording streams, battling storms, and withstanding heat. They arrive at Valmont, a small town near Boulder, Colorado. But to no avail, as Arthur dies of TB anyway in the spring of 1908.

Caroline returns back to her Lyman Co. homestead with her two sons Charles and Oscar. Ida remains in Boulder, where she worked at the hospital to pay the medical bills.

About 1910, Carolina gives up the homestead when her sons were grown and lived with them in near Cody, Nebraska and Colorado. In the meantime her daughter Ida homesteads in Cherry County, Nebraska with her husband. Later, she visits Sweden, but becomes caught up in the conflict of World War I and her whereabouts and safety were unknown during the war, but she returns to America. She lived near Frederick, Colorado with her son Charles and family in the early 1920s. Later she moves to Presho, S.D. to live with her daughter Ida and family. Carolina dies at Presho, S.D. 24 April 1934 at the home of her daughter, Ida (Anderson) Nelson. Carolina dies at Presho, S.D. 24 April 1934 at the home of her daughter, Ida (Anderson) Nelson.
