Carol Cowart Brubaker, aged 66, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at her home on St. Simons Island, Georgia. Born in Brunswick, Georgia on February 15, 1949, the daughter of noted attorney, George Cowart, and his wife, Mary Woods Cowart. Carol attended Glynn County schools throughout her undergraduate years, excelling academically. Also, she was Homecoming Queen and Captain of the Pirates of the Spanish Main Sorority. She continued her education at the University of Georgia, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta and studied art history.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Brubaker was an active force in her community. She was greatly honored to serve as Glynn County Commissioner at Large and Chairman of the Board of Health. Mrs. Brubaker was a reporter for the Brunswick News, a real estate agent for Trupp Hodnett, and proprietor of two stores exemplifying her elegant taste, Bagatelle and Dazzle. A consummate hostess, Mrs. Brubaker will always be remembered for her beautiful parties, great finesse in the kitchen, and breathtaking gardens. Together with her husband, Mr. Robert P. Brubaker, she traveled extensively, visiting most parts of the world. In her free time, she loved to fish and shoot skeet, and was named the Sea Island ladies skeet champion. She had a striking, signature sense of style and could frequently be seen driving behind the wheel of a convertible wearing a beautiful hat and great jewelry. She was the focal point of every room she entered. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Ocean Forest and Sea Island Golf Clubs. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brubaker was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Brubaker. She is survived by a daughter, Katie Highsmith as well as her many friends.

Carol was an active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church where a service will be held at 11AM Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Friends are invited to a luncheon reception immediately following the service at the family residence. Memorials may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, 900 Gloucester St., Brunswick, GA 31520.
