Hilda L. Vollmer
Hilda Louise Laeder Vollmer, 94, of Pigeon, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. She was born in Center Point, Iowa on Sept. 23 1914, the 12th of 13 children born to the late John and Clara (Grimming) Laeder.
She graduated from Harbor Beach High School, and later attended business college in Detroit.
She was united in marriage to Alfred J. Vollmer on April 28, 1936 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Pigeon.
Mrs. Vollmer was a member of the St. Francis Altar Society and was very active in her church, teaching catechism, and volunteering whenever she was asked.
She was also a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, an avid bridge player, excellent golfer and bowler, and loving mother and grandmother to her family.
A giving person, she was always at peace and content with her place in life. The love of her family was always her focus. She enjoyed needlepoint and quilting, and lovingly gave quilts to all of her godchildren.
Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth Norene and James H. Wallace, Jr. of Freeland; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert Alfred and Lorraine Vollmer of Las Vegas, Nev.; five grandchildren, James H. (Wendy) Wallace III, Todd M. Wallace, Ryan C. (Jamie) Wallace, Tom Vollmer, and Katie Vollmer; five great-grandchildren, James H. Wallace IV, Addisyn E. Wallace, Rielly Jo Wallace, Carston C. Wallace, and Nora Vollmer; her special family, the children of John and Gloria Vollmer; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Alfred, she was preceded in death by her 12 siblings: William, Anna, Henry, Elsie, Ida, Carl, Albert, Flora, Paul, Walter, Rose, and Leonard.
_Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, Pigeon, with the Rev. Fr. John Weis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Scripture Wake Service will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Meyersieck-Bussema _Funeral Home, Pigeon.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church or Scheurer Hospital.
