Lee Calvin Hartman, Sr., 97, of Salem, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, after a brief illness. Born October 8, 1900 at Medley (Roanoke County), he was a son of the late Jesse Lee Hartman and the late Anna Dupree Hartman.

He was predeceased by a sister, Mae Eugene Gordon.

At the time of his death he was president of Lee Hartman and Sons, Inc., an electronics firm which he began in 1936. He was a lifetime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, which was founded with the help of his parents until it was dissolved recently, at which time he moved his membership to St. Philip Lutheran Church. A founder, charter member, and the first president of the Villa Heights Lions Club, he was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellow. Mr. Hartman was one of the original members of Roanoke's 1900 Club.

Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Cathleen Landrum Hartman of Salem; three sons, Lee C. Hartman Jr, Tinker Mountain, Robert L. Hartman and his wife, Dot Hartman, of Botetourt County, Jack L. Hartman and his wife, June Hartman, of Roanoke; eight grandchildren, Dinitia C. Hartman and husband, Gerry Samchuck, Robert L. Hartman Jr. and wife, Judy Hartman, Jack L. Hartman Jr. and wife, Cindy Hartman, Stephen M. Hartman and wife, Sandra Hartman, Thomas L. Hartman, Benjamin Hartman and wife, Karen Hartman, J. Kevin Hartman, Tammy Love and husband, Patrick Love, all of Roanoke; eight great-grandchildren, Michael Washburn, Jessica, Kimberly, Caitlin, Jackie, Courtney, and Kristen Hartman, and Kelly Love; two sisters, Glenna Margaret Snodgrass, Troutville, and Gay Hartman Woolwine and husband, Russell Woolwine, of Roanoke; and two nephews, Eugene Gordon, Botetourt County, and Fred Snodgrass of Roanoke.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 1998, from Oakey's North Chapel. Pastor Paul (Chip) Gunsten and the Rev. Vern T. Jordahl will officiate. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. Those prefering to make memorials may do so to a charity of one's choice. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Oakey's North Chapel.
