In 1955, the family moved to the Tarrytown area of Gary, IN and had an upholstery business on 17th & Washington and in Michigan City, IN. Myrtle was the seamstress and milliner for many women of the Tarrytown area and surrounding city. The family united with Davis Memorial AME Church in Tarrytown. While at Davis, she served in the capacity of Stewardess, Trustee, Steward, and Missionary until her health prevented her attendance. Her biggest highlight was being named the Worship Leader at the Annual conference. Myrtle was First Lady at Community AME Church in LaPorte, IN and Wayman AME Church in Peru, IN. while her husband pastored
